58025 Golf Racing Group 2 (1981)
84316 / 47308 Golf Racing Group 2 (2013)
The two modernized versions are strictly identical. Both use the M-05 chassis and the lexan bodyshell is identical to the original (including the ABS parts), even though it is claimed 1/10th scale in 2013 when it was 1/12th in 1981. However, the modernized version is not presented as a re-release by Tamiya.
58026 Renault 5 Turbo (1981)
84227 Renault 5 Turbo (2011)
The modernized version uses the M-05 chassis in Ra flavor, when rally was definitely not suited for the original chassis. The lexan bodyshell is identical (including the ABS parts), even though it is claimed 1/10th scale in 2013 when it was 1/12th in 1981.However, the modernized version is not presented as a re-release by Tamiya.
58027 Ford F150 Ranger XLT (1981)
58058 Blackfoot (1986)
Speaking of "modernized" version for the time may seem odd: yet, the bodyshell shared by these two models is identical, apart from the decoration. In fact, the real name written on kit 58058 box is Ford F150 Ranger Blackfoot. So this is Tamiya's very first modernized re-release, even if the Blackfoot ORV chassis can't be considered as an SRB evolution, especially since the usage is totally different.
58035 Wild Willy Willys M38 (1982)
58242 Wild Willy II (2000)
49337 Wild Willy II Metallic Special (2003)
Version II never was presented as a re-release by Tamiya. Despite this, except very few details (front grill), the modernized version bodyshell is the same as the original's. But most important, the crazy driver was kept.
58038 Subaru Brat (1983)
58077 Mud Blaster (1989)
58514 Mud Blaster II (2011)
The spirit and look of modernized versions are totally different, however, the bodyshell remains the same despite the complete changes of decoration. None was ever presented as a re-release by Tamiya.
58039 Willy's Wheeler (1983)
58611 Honda City Turbo (2015)
The re-released bodyshell is the same as the original. The chassis is the WR-02C, an almost identical version as the one used on the Wild Willy II modern re-release. Most important of all, Willy is still at the wheel.
58040 Lancia Rally (1983)
58278 Lancia 037 Rally (2001)
The modernized version bodyshell shows some differences compared to the original's, especially the smaller wheel arches and a complete interior. The chassis is the TA-03RS (4 wheel drive!). This version never was presented as a re-release by Tamiya.
58044 Mitsubishi Pajero (1984)
58499 Mitsubishi Pajero (2011)
The modernized version shows minor differences compared to the original's. The chassis is the re-released Lunch Box's (which is the evolution of the original Pajero's chassis). Note that this model is also called Mitsubishi Montero (the real size vehicle also changes its name depending on countries).
58049 Toyota Tom's 84C (1985)
58509 Toyota Tom's 84C (2011)
The bodyshell is pretty much identical to the original's. The chassis is entirely new.
58052 Porsche 956 RM Mk.7 New Man (1985)
58521 Newman Joest Racing Porsche 956 (2012)
The bodyshell is pretty much identical to the original's. The chassis is entirely new.
58068 Lotus Honda 99T (1987)
84191 Lotus Honda 99T (2011)
The modernized version uses the F-103 chassis and the bodyshell is identical to the original's, except the rear wing mount.
58070 Midnight Pumpkin (1987)
58594 Lowride Pumpkin (2014)
93036 Lowride Pumpkin White (2015)
The modernized version is a radical chassis change since it uses the M-06 chassis, but the ABS bodyshell and livery is identical. Version 93036 is a limited edition featuring a factory painted with bodyshell in lexan.
58095 Lotus 102B Judd (1991)
84287 Team Lotus Type 102B (2012)
The modernized version uses the F-104W chassis and the bodyshell is identical to the original's, except the rear wing mount. The tire manufacturer also disappeared.
58096 Toyota Celica GT Four Rally (1991)
58515 Toyota Celica GT Four (2012)
This model inaugurated the TA-01 chassis in 1991. The modernized version uses the TT-01E chassis with an identical bodyshell but a reduced livery (thus the "Rally" loss in the name).
58099 Nissan Skyline GT-R Nismo (1991)
58120 Axia Skyline GT-R Gr.A (1993)
58135 Calsonic Skyline GT-R Gr.A (1994)
58140 HKS Nissan Skyline GT-R Gr.A (1994)
58428 Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 Drift (2008)
First based on the TA-01 chassis, this bodyshell made a return 2 years later, still with the TA-01 but with a brand new livery. Two different liveries followed using the TA-02 chassis before the final (?) TT-01D drift version re-release. The bodyshell is strictly identical for the five models, apart from the livery.
Thanks to Kuruma for his help on this bodyshell
