The GF platform

For the moment, this platform is still very recent since it was first released in 2014 and it only counts one single model. However, it shares aspects with the WR-02 chassis, even though it is “aspects” in a non-material way since there are almost no common parts between the two.

As it looks, the GF-01 can be considered as a 4WD WR-02 chassis: it is still a “wheelie” thing and the overall chassis handling looks as sharp and quick, especially at high speed. Unfortunately, you don't see many of these yet, but the first owners seem to greatly enjoy laughing

Conclusion on the GF platform

This platform being new, no one can predict how much fans will be interested in it or what are Tamiya plans for it. The GF-01 chassis is obviously following the tracks of the WR-02, even borrowing its famous Willy driver. As a matter of fact, this is a 4WD variant that keeps the Willy's fun, but so far, the main interest in the 4WD seems to be the greater handling, so making the model easier to control by young kids. Here and there on Internet, you can find custom modifications to widen the chassis track or attempts to improve off-road abilities. However, due to the very high center of gravity, the gain from these improvements looks pretty limited.
