Tamiya 58163 Rover Mini Cooper 94 Monte-Carlo - M-01

Rover Mini Cooper '94 Monte Carlo

It's rather difficult to rationally explain how this model joined my collection. Say I was randomly surfing on a famous auction site when I saw this chassis along with a... bodyshell? blob? ...well, an ugly "cover". But when I focused on the photos, I realized it was coming with many interesting options. As only 2 minutes were left, I only placed an offer "to see" with no real hope (and not much thinking either).

I guess the bodyshell made people run away since the model arrived home laughing.

I had this project in my mind for quite a long time but I needed to get involved into it. In fact, the idea was born when I discovered that HPI had release a wonderful replica of a rally legend: the Lancia Stratos HF. However, this bodyshell is designed to fit the manufacturer's Cup Racer chassis, that is 4WD M-class chassis. I personally don't like this chassis my friend J-F gave me the chance to discover a while ago. Moreover, I don't like the idea not to respect the original RWD of this rally legend.

This model doesn't exist, at least not the way I am going to build it. The main part is the beautiful 58009 Toyota Celica LB Turbo Gr.5 bodyset released back in 1978. Since I own my Monster Beetle and even more my XR311, I felt into a passion for Tamiya very first RC models, more precisely for their so highly detailed bodysets.

For once, I claim I'm not responsible for this: my friends Boo54, J-F and Teamneogordini are guilty!

Lately, we had an on-road run even I generally prefer off-roading or rallying with my Ford Focus WRC. Problem is we are currently searching for a new place to run off-road since the previous place is no longer good at anything. So, we met for a cool afternoon of tarmac driving. I came with my Citroën Xsara WRC and my Lancia Delta HF prepared for on-road.
